Must See TV

I never watch morning TV (hello 9 am classes!) so whenever my schedule permits, I set my alarm and spend the morning watching my favorites.

Wednesday's Today Show was a complete delight, with Amy Astley and Ali Michael teaming up to chat about the intolerably thin model issue and, oh my gosh, they were both incredible. Ali, who turned eighteen yesterday, was well-spoken, sensitive, and smart. Tall and lithe, she showed up to Paris Fashion Week only to be turned away for being too "curvy." Cheers to her for speaking out. She looked fab and very Teen Vogue in black cigarette pants, little snakeskin flats, and a bright blue cardigan jacket. Amy, who looked every bit as angelic as expected, was just as flawless in a pretty plum top, black skirt, and great studded gladiator shoes.

Then yesterday on Rachael Ray, Penn Badgley Dan Humphrey, in all of his intelligent, brooding glory, assisted Rach in the kitch. At one point, Rachael suggested that Dan should cook the simple chicken dish for his next date night and my heart fluttered in hopes that one of them would bring up Blake Serena. No luck, though Penn did mention that he likes to stir hummus into his scrambled eggs, which I've already decided I will be doing every day this summer while pretending that I'm dining with Penn instead of just dining on Penn's favorite lunch. Almost the same thing.

It's safe to say I have very high hopes for today.

Spotted: S and D in Mexico!

Proof that Gossip Girl is not just a television show... it is real life. And don't try to tell me any differently.

Serena and Dan were spotted frolicking on a beach vacation. I'm thinking Dan left Sarah's side at the last minute and kidnapped Serena for a whirlwind weekend trip. Adorable, right? I can just picture Chuck hiding under an umbrella, cigarettes and straight bourbon close by, while Blair is undoubtedly spending the day inside getting day-long massages and sipping on cocktails.

Turning The Proverbial Page

After writing too many "great american president" papers, reading too many postmodern poems, and studying too many spanish verb conjugations, I am officially done with sophomore year. How these past ten months escaped so quickly is beyond me.

Two weeks from today, I leave for my summer adventure in New York and little Teenfashionista (the blog and the girl) will never be the same. In addition to chatting about the usual - fashion, music, too many flats - I will be extensively detailing everything related to New York. From the flight to the move-in to the first few hours in the city, I'll let no adventure go unwritten. What I won't be gossiping about is my internship - we know that doesn't always fare well - but I plan on revealing bits here and there.

Until then, I'll probably be gabbing non-stop about the upcoming trip and studying Lonely Planet's guide to the city as if I will have a final exam about the material. But in a way, my summer will kind of be the final exam. So there.

"It will feel like home, no matter how far you'll be."

I have survived a week of finals with my sanity intact, and I think that can be mostly credited to my incredibly soothing, motivating, inspiring spring playlist

Farmer Chords by Andrew Kenny and Ben Gibbard
Cath by Death Cab for Cutie
I Adore You by Melpo Mene
Go To Hell by David Ford
Yes, I'm Cold by Chris Bathgate
Bottle It Up by Sara Bareilles
A False Start by The Minor Canon
Flying Over Bus Stops by Athlete
Mr. Chess by Duncan Sheik
Can't Get It Right Today by Joe Purdy
Home By Saturday by Hayden
Indian Summer by Ben Gibbard
Hiding Behind the Moon by Jeff Hensen

If your finals are killing you and you've listened to your study playlist ten too many times, download a few of these to liven your iPod up. And tie a string on your finger to remind you to buy the new Death Cab for Cutie cd on Tuesday. Seth Cohen would be so proud.

Thank you, Post Secret, for making my day.

A procrastinating click to Post Secret was necessary. It's only Wednesday and this week has been one of the longest to date. I have so many tasks to accomplish, so many exams to study for, and so many things to pack before my departure (last exam is Monday... sayonara sophomore year). Phew.

Change Your Shoes, Change Your Day

After going to bed at 2, I woke up a bit before 7 to study for exams and do a little work. Upon leaving for class, I slid on my favorite muted navy plaid flats and cracked the first smile of my morning despite not having a much-needed caffeine fix yet. Then a sudden life mantra hit me: Punchy patterns bring instant happiness.

Feeling blue? Wear madras. A little sleepy? Polka dots are the answer. Overwhelmed with life? Rugby stripes of course.

I can't think of a pattern that will solve my "studying for two exams when all I can think about is my summer in New York and when I google something about 'Iran Contra' the website for New York Magazine mysteriously appears" problem but I'll let you know what I come up with.
