The Real Supporting Actress

Am I wrong in saying that Abigail Breslin was robbed? She gave so much to her character in Little Miss Sunshine; she broke my heart, made me smile, made me cry, then made me laugh so hard I cried. And her dress? So much better than Jennifer Hudson's metallic space age jacket. What was Oscar - both de la Renta and the statue - thinking?

that's a lie..abigail breslin is like, 8 years old. any cute little girl could've managed the part she played in little miss sunshine. jennifer hudson, on the other hand, was INCREDIBLE in dreamgirls. she voice literally took my breath away when I saw the movie. though i do agree with you, however, that jennifer's oscar de la renta was a bit space-agey.

Are you kidding? Abigail Breslin basically played herself -- and no offense, but she's in 5th grade and wore a heinous dress. I had way better taste in 5th grade. Jennifer Hudson, however, was incredible in Dreamgirls. And she looks very chic in the Oscar de la Renta cropped jacket. Hey, it's called high fashion. Abigail's dress from straight from the rack of JCPenney.

I agree that Abigail's dress wasn't exactly chic, but her $10,000 Neil Lane diamonds definitely were. Lucky kid.

If I were her stylist, I would have dressed her in a tailored-made Marc Jacobs, a la Dakoda Fanning in his ad campaign, topped off with sweet ballet flats and a mini clutch.

Uhm, does Jennifer Hudson's dress have pockets? POCKETS? The Spock-slash-baked-potato jacket aside... pockets?

Although this is a fashion blog, I have to respond to anonymous' comment about Abigail playing herself. Was Jennifer Hudson merely playing, err excuse me, singing herself? Would Jennifer Hudson even have been considered for the part were it not for her appearance on American Idol and all the hype that she would attract for the film? Having not seen the film, but only bits and pieces of the trailers(where they should show the best to grab your interest), Jennifer did not impress me at all. Just because she can sing does not mean she can act...and in comparison to Beyonce, during their appearance together last night, I think even her singing abilities are questionable. One supposedly amazing song does not constitute an Oscar performance!

In regards to fashion, I thought Abigail could have chosen a better dress as well, but at least she looked like an 8 yr old and not some trampy girl. And yeah, what was with that jacket???? I actually liked the dress on its own though, pockets and all.

Before one reviews a movie, it would be wise to acctually watch it and not base the movie by its trailer.

I love the cropped metallic jacket... abigail looks like a pageant girl from tennessee...

Before one posts comments on a blog, it would be wise to learn proper English!

And to be quite frank, I didn't review the movie.

But for the sake of it, isn't the trailer supposed to be the basis for our decision on whether or not we see a movie; so trailers do have an inherent value in movie reviewing.

I'm anxious to see Jennifer in a non-singing role and then maybe, but highly doubtful, I'll acknowledge her talent.

you make a good point

All I can say is that Cate Blanchett was robbed. Abigail was a 2nd place contender. And if you want to read more about what I have to say about Mademoiselle Hudson, read my blog, "live" from the Paris shows this week...viewfromthefourthrow.blogspot.com

By the way, teenfashionista...sorry but that Anne Hathaway gown was an utter disaster! Hopefully Valentino's show tomorrow will show better gowns than that!

To the anonymous commentor, how can you say anything about Jennifer Hudson's performance if you haven't even seen Dreamgirls!

ok first of all how can anybody comment on Jennifer's acting skills when they haven't seen the movie? And, I can't believe somebody actually said that Beyonce can sing better than Jennifer...are u deaf??? Beyonce can't sing..she's just T&A. I loved Jennifer in Dreamgirls and I actually saw the movie not the preveiws and she did a wonderful job. I think it's offensive to compare an 8 year old child to Jennifer. You gotta be kidding me.
